Structure and motion of curved 3D objects from monocular silhouettes

چکیده
The silhouette of a smooth 3D object observed by a moving camera changes over time. Past work has shown how surface geometry can be recovered using the deformation of the silhouette when the camera motion is known. This paper addresses the problem of estimating both the full Euclidean surface structure and the camera motion from a dense set of silhouettes captured under orthographic or scaled orthographic projection. The approach relies on a viewpoint-invariant representation of curves swept by viewpoint-dependent features such as bitangents, innections and contour points with parallel tangents. Feature points, which form stereo frontier points between non-consecutive images, are matched using this representation. The camera's angular velocity is computed from constraints derived from this correspondence along with the image velocity of these features. From the angular velocity, the epipolar geometry is ascertained, and innnitesimal motion frontier points can be detected. In turn, the motion of these frontier points constrains the translation component of camera motion. Finally, the surface is reconstructed using established techniques once the camera motion has been estimated.

An Augmented Reality Based User Interface Model for Full Body Interaction using Monocular 3D Pose Estimation
In this paper, we present a conceptual design of augmented reality full body interaction based on monocular 3D pose estimation. The proposed design is based on 3D pose estimation from the image of user’s motions captured by a monocular camera and the processing of 3D human poses for augmented reality applications. Based on the method, a 3D human full body model is constructed. The silhouettes e...

متن کاملReal-time Detection of Maneuvering Objects by a Monocular Observer
A method is proposed for real-time detection of objects that maneuver in the visual field of a monocular observer. Such cases are common in natural environments where the 3D motion parameters of certain objects (e.g. animals) change considerably over time. The approach taken conforms with the theory of purposive vision, according to which vision algorithms should solve many, specific problems u...
متن کاملStructure and Motion from Silhouettes
Silhouettes (or outlines) are often a dominant image feature, and can be extracted relatively easily and reliably. They provide rich information about both the shape and motion of an object, and are indeed the only information available in the case of smooth textureless surfaces. Nonetheless, due to the viewpoint dependence of silhouettes, they do not readily provide point correspondences, and ...
